Competitive Pay: Starting at $57,798/year, plus $4,562 in state incentives (Incentive is applied for upon graduation)

What is the Trainee Academy Like?

The Trainee Academy is your road to becoming a Firefighter with Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS. Running for approximately 26 weeks, this intensive program will equip you with the hands-on skills needed to excel in your role.
You’ll gain experience in:

Emergency medical procedures

Firefighting techniques 

Rescue operations


Upon completion, you’ll be certified as a Kentucky 400-Hour Firefighter and a Nationally Registered EMT, ready for your next step in a 24/48-hour crew assignment.

​Is it challenging?  Absolutely. But it's also incredibly rewarding—and fun!

Valid Driver’s License

Age 18 or older

CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) card (must be obtained before or during the hiring process and must be valid at the time Academy starts)

Anchorage Middletown CPAT Testing

Members of the public wishing to become a career firefighter in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and in many other states must pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) in order to be hired. The CPAT is a standardized pass/fail, timed physical ability test designed to evaluation whether firefighter Candidates can safely perform essential, physically demanding job tasks. It was developed by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) as part of the Wellness-Fitness Initiate.
