Board of trustees
Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS (AMFEMS) is a Fire Protection District, established in accordance with the Kentucky Revised Statues (KRS) Chapter 75. A Fire Protection District is a special district sometimes known as political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Geographic boundary established by statute
- 7-member board of trustees
- 3 members appointed by Metro Mayor
- 2 members are property owners elected by property owners of geographic area
- 2 members are firefighters elected by firefighters of the department
- Board controls the fire department, property and equipment owned by the district
- Appoints the fire chief and all subordinates
- Establishes number of members/employees and fixes salaries
- Provides financial oversight for all expenses of the fire protection district
The district provides fire protection, and an emergency ambulance service and may levy a tax, not to exceed twenty cents ($0.20) per one hundred dollars ($100) of valuation as assessed for county taxes to operate the fire department and Emergency Medical Services. Currently AMFEMS' tax rate is seventeen point five cents ($0.175) per one hundred ($100) of property value for property within the geographic boundaries of the fire protection district. This is collected in Jefferson County by the Sheriff on annual tax bills. The current members of the Board of Trustees are listed on this site.
