AMFEMS and St. Matthews FD units respond to apartment fire
One adult occupant transported to the hospital

East Louisville, KY, October 28, 2025, around 9 :42 a.m., units from Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS and St. Matthews FD responded to an apartment fire on the 10000 block of Shining Willow Drive, off Westport Road.

First units arrived within four minutes of dispatch and found a working fire in a two-story, multi-unit apartment building, with heavy smoke pouring through the eaves on the front of the building. Crews quickly made entry and conducted an interior fire attack, extinguishing the main body of fire, and containing the fire to the unit of origin. They also forced entry into the adjacent apartment, which was unoccupied, that unit sustained no fire, smoke, or water damage.

Two adult occupants had exited the structure prior to crews’ arrival. One adult male occupant was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by medic crews and transported to University of Louisville hospital—injury appears to be non-life-threatening. The apartment sustained extensive fire damage to the bedroom, which is where the fire started. The residents will be relocated to another apartment in the same complex.

No injuries to fire personnel were reported. It took 32 firefighters and medical personnel 25 minutes to control the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
