We’d like to announce the retirement of Captain Jonathan Ames after 24 years of service. Jon, as we knew him, was hired as Harrods Creek Fire District’s First Full-Time Firefighter/Mechanic in the spring of 1999. Jon was a member of the Mt. Horeb Volunteer Fire Department in Wisconsin; loved fire apparatus and other vehicles, which is what made him the perfect person to fill the need. He was a true “Gear Head.” If an apparatus wasn’t cleaned or maintained properly, you would hear about it. He helped spec out the new fleet that served Harrods Creek at the turn of the century which was innovative in many ways. Jon received his certification as a Certified Emergency Vehicle Technician, was promoted to Captain, and was responsible for all maintenance at Harrods Creek prior to the merger.
Major Joe Wolfe with Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS who is in charge of the Fleet Services Division was happy to have someone with Jon’s knowledge and expertise as the fleet grew considerably because of the merger. Jon was likely happy that the newest editions to the Anchorage Middletown Fleet would have a red and black paint scheme and be “blacked out” as the apparatus at Mt. Horeb where he grew up had Black paint with Red Accents.
Jon has two daughters, Trisha & Brook, a stepdaughter Riley, and a grandson Sebastian who he will likely spend a lot more time with during his retirement. We want to thank his family for sharing him with us.
Jon, thank you for all you have done in your 24 years. It’s time to enjoy that grandson, the rest of your family and whatever projects or vehicles you’ve had on hold.
Congratulations on your retirement! You've earned it!
